In late June, Marriott Vacation Club International opened its eighth property on Hilton Head Island, SC. At build out, the new Marriott's SurfWatch will have 195 one- and two-bedroom villas. The resort sits on 31 acres of one of the last remaining beachfront parcels on the island.

Other timeshare companies have been busy with openings and groundbreakings:

• Escapes! to the Gulf opened on June 15 in Galveston, TX. The project is the result of a public-private partnership that includes a beachfront public park and a 78-unit mid-rise timeshare building.

• Starwood Vacation Ownership recently broke ground on the next phase of the Westin Kierland Villas in Scottsdale, AZ and on The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas, a new 179-unit resort that will be the first Westin-branded timeshare property on the island on Kauai.
