Hotel Maya
Long Beach, CA
The Team: Ensemble Real Estate (ownership); Joie de Vivre (management); ARYA Group (architectural design, interiors and construction); Heery International (executive architect); DPS Interiors (room interiors)
The Brief: Create a four-star urban oasis for rejuvenation and inspiration on the 11-acre waterfront property that was formerly the Coast Long Beach Hotel.
The Project: The $20-million renovation revitalized five 40-year-old buildings and 197 rooms and was completed in December.
The Finished Product: The first distinctive full-service luxury Long Beach boutique hotel is a fusion of Latin American beachside resort and modern Southern California style. The property is infused with Mayan qualities, including a blending of rich textiles and patterns, splashes of vibrant colors, earthy and organic furnishings. Open spaces flow naturally into each other, while creating small gathering areas with old world furniture that brings the hotel to a residential scale.
The Focal Points: Interior and exterior rooms are interwoven, blurring lines between indoor and outdoor as glass doors offer spectacular views of the harbor and the Long Beach skyline. Several outdoor areas create room to relax, including an authentic Latin restaurant with waterfront dining and a nighttime retractable movie screen, an outdoor cigar lounge and hookah bar, the full-size heated lap pool and Jacuzzi with a guest bar and a water canal with floating cabanas overlooking the harbor. A tropical outdoor area with a scenic waterfall and glimmering chandelier suspended between palm trees offers a romantic wedding space.
