Starwood Out, Radisson In at Bahamas Resort
The Radisson flag is flying again in The Bahamas. Carlson’s fullservice brand last week assumed management of the Radisson Our Lucaya Resort on Grand Bahama Island. The 740-room oceanfront resort had been a Westin. A sister property, which Sheraton operated until last week, is now an independent, The Reef Village.
As is typical in the hotel brand game, the conversion brings Radisson back to the islands. At one time, it operated the Cable Beach Resort, which is now a Sheraton. Other Radisson properties in the Caribbean are in Aruba and St. Martin.
A unit of Hong Kong-based Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. built the resort in 2000, and Sheraton and Westin took over operations in 2003. In 2004, Hurricane Frances tore through Grand Bahama Island and put the resort out of commission for nearly two months.
