Candlewood Unveils New Look
The first of Candlewood Suites' new generation of properties opened early last month in Sheridan, WY. The new look is the first for the mid-scale extended-stay product in 12 years and incorporates new exterior design and paint schemes, an expanded lobby and a number of environmentally friendly amenities.
According to Rob Radomski, vice president of extended-stay brands for InterContinental Hotels Group, the prototype was the result of extensive research covering the needs of both guests and owners. “Research showed that guests and owners preferred a more residential design, and this prototype meets the needs of both audiences,” he says. “We're able to provide guests with more of the comforts they find at home at a cost that's still attractive to our owners.”
Three major elements mark the new look:
The exterior design features a straight, forward-facing rectangular building with a new entryway and curb line. The exterior color scheme combines shades of light khaki, olive green, tan and dark blue.
An expanded lobby has multiple sitting areas, comfortable furniture and a 41-inch flat-screen TV designed to encourage its use as a living room for guests, many of whom stay at the properties for extended periods.
Green concerns were addressed with the addition of low-flow showerheads and toilets, compact fluorescent lightbulbs, sodium vapor fixtures and an interior design that allows for more natural light.
More than 100 of the new prototype Candlewoods are in IHG's development pipeline. Sugarland Enterprises owns and operates the Sheridan property.
