Judge Halts Denizen for at Least 90 Days
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has gotten its first request: Judge Stephen C. Robinson, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York, entered a preliminary injunction stopping Hilton Hotels from further developing the Denizen Hotels brand for at least 90 days. The injunction, agreed to by all parties, means Hilton must cease all internal and external work on the brand, including all design, branding, development, promotion, staffing or marketing work, which includes any discussion or negotiation with prospective owners and developers.
Starwood last week filed suit against Hilton, Ross Klein and Amar Lalvani, alleging the former Starwood execs, aided by Hilton, stole massive amounts of proprietary and confidential information which was used to expedite the development and launch of Denizen, Hilton’s foray into the luxury lifestyle segment.
Hilton followed suit by placing Klein, Lalvani and its
entire luxury and lifestyle team on paid administrative leave and suspended
development of the brand pending further review by Hilton.
