Texas Tops Development Pipeline

Texas leads the way in the construction pipeline with 806 hotels and 86,051 guestrooms in some stage of development, according to a new report from Lodging Econometrics, the New Hampshire-based hotel real estate analysis firm. The Texas pipeline represents nearly 12 percent of rooms and 14 percent of properties under development at the end of the third quarter.

The top 10 states in hotel development account for 62 percent of all rooms and 56 percent of properties in the U.S. pipeline. Not surprisingly, a lot of big properties are under development in Nevada. The state has 85 hotels in the pipeline with 47,032 guestrooms, with a per-property average of 553 rooms. By contrast, hotels under development in Texas have an average of 107 units.
