Visionary hotelier Sol Kerzner, creator of destination resorts, casinos and luxury hotels, is at it again. Best known for the behemoth 2,917-room Atlantis on Paradise Island in The Bahamas, his Kerzner International recently added a new 600-room all-suite tower, The Cove, to the complex. Designed by renowned interior architects Jeffrey Beers and David Rockwell, the new resort also showcases the talents of interior designers Wimberly, Allison, Tong and Goo, Hirsch Bedner Associates and the landscape architecture of EDSA.

“I challenged Jeffrey Beers to come up with something that was different and sophisticated and yet would capture the color, texture, light and openness of The Cove,” says Kerzner. “I wanted the new resort to maintain a level of urban energy combined with a beachside essence and I believe that he has delivered that in this magnificent property.”

For the lobby, shown above, Jeffrey Beers designed a series of interlocking open-air covered walkways in and around the main lobby to ensure that guests are never far from the sounds, scents and vistas of the beaches and water.

Described as “temple-like” by Beers, the circular porte-cochere architecture of the main lobby boasts dramatic 35-foot timber ceilings adorned with 25-foot copper woven cylinder lights inspired by the melodic sounds of tropical wind chimes.
