Judge Appoints Receiver For Pennsylvania Timeshare Resort

Lender Alleges Owner Misused Timeshare Fees
A Philadelphia company has been appointed by a federal judge to operate Split Rock Resort while a legal dispute plays out in court. ROPA Associates LLC was assigned as a receiver to manage the day-to-day operations of the 1,200-acre year-round resort in Kidder Township, Carbon County. Split Rock is owned by Vacation Charters LTD and employs 546 people. U.S. District Court Judge A. Richard Caputo appointed ROPA Associates in November in response to a petition filed by Textron Financial Corp. that claimed Vacation Charters was on the verge of filing for bankruptcy and had improperly used maintenance fees paid by timeshare holders to pay attorneys fees and to fund a portion of a $2.2 million settlement in a separate class-action lawsuit.
