Wyndham Continues China Expansion
China continues to be a ripe development target for U.S. hotel chains. Yesterday, Ramada Worldwide announced two new hotels in the country, including one that will be the largest in the 900-property chain. When they open next year, the two hotels will add more than 1,500 rooms to Ramada’s China portfolio.
The 1,000-room Ramada Hotel & Suites Boao is scheduled to open at the end of next year on Hainan Island off the south coast of China. The developer, a subsidiary of the Shanghai Baolian Real Estate Co., envisions the Ramada as the centerpiece of a two-square-kilometer oceanfront mixed-use development project. The 24-story Ramada will have three restaurants, lobby bar, pool and meeting space.
The other new Ramada will be an eight-story, 548-room property in Huangshan in the Anhui province. The property will have a restaurant, meeting space for 600 and a fitness center. Guestrooms will feature 26-inch flat-screen TVs and free high-speed Internet access. Developer is Huangshan Xinhui Investment Co.
Wyndham Hotel Group, Ramada’s parent company, franchises 170-plus properties in China, including 34 Ramadas.
