A Sensible Amenity
Recognizing the dangers of the Florida sun, one Panhandle resort installed an amenity that merges guest safety, convenience and financial responsibility. Earlier this year, the 600-room Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa installed a spray-on suncare booth near the property's beach and pool.
For a $5 fee (cash, credit card or coupon chargeable to a guestroom), the guest enters the booth and chooses from a 15- or 30-SPF sport formula suncreen or a tan enhancer. The guest is sprayed for one second on the front, turns around and is is sprayed for a second on the back. The application covers the guest evenly with a two-ounce coating of sunscreen, twice the recommendation from the FDA. The application requires no eye protection.
Due to current airline travel restrictions, some resort guests aren't able to bring sufficient amounts of suncare products in their carry-on luggage, forcing them to buy whole tubes or do without sunscreen.
The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, as well as several other U.S. hotels, have similar technology.
