The upcoming Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center will focus on the latest in sustainable products and resources through exhibits, seminars and special events. Attendees will get the latest word on eco-friendly best practices for hospitality operators. The 93rd annual show will be held Nov. 9-11 and will be held concurrently with the American Hotel & Lodging Association fall meeting.

“With the sustainability movement continuing to strengthen, we're pleased to help 35,000 industry professionals share the eco-friendly best practices of hospitality operators from experts in the field, and to display the latest green products,” says Lynn White, show manager.

Keynoter Christine Ervin, environmental leader and former CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council, will set the tone with “Sustainability” at 10:30 a.m., on Sunday, Nov. 9. Ervin is a major force in the green-building market. During her five-year tenure as president and CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council, Ervin launched the LEED green building rating system and the Greenbuild Conference and Expo. Ervin was Assistant Secretary of Energy during the Clinton administration, responsible for a $1-billion portfolio of clean energy technologies for transportation, buildings, major industries and power systems.

This year, the show will also feature “Going Green in Hospitality,” developed in cooperation with the AH&LA Green Task Force. The exhibition will cover best practices, case studies and updates on how the hospitality industry has embraced the green movement.

The Green Task Force will present “Eco-friendly Meets Eco-nomic” from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10. This seminar will address green's transition from market differentiator to mainstream requirement, including how to achieve a reputable green certification and how to satisfy guest expectations even before they reach the lobby.

As part of the annual Editors' Choice Awards, the show will spotlight the best green products on the show floor that have been introduced in the past year. Other Editors' Choice Awards will be presented in decor, essentials, luxury, restaurant and technology categories. In addition, the Kenneth F. Hine Best of Show Award will spotlight the top new product. Editors from leading hospitality and culinary trade publications will review about 200 submissions and select outstanding new products based on innovative design, how products answer particular needs, the creative use of material or construction and the development or use of new technology.

Eric Stoessel, managing editor of Lodging Hospitality, will moderate a panel discussion called “Efficiency in Design” on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 3:45 p.m. “Energy Miser All Stars: Conservation Lessons from the Best,” which runs concurrent with “Efficiency in Design” will be presented by Green Lodging News Editor and Publisher Glenn Hasek.

To further underscore the Show's green theme, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, the governing force behind New York City's water conservation efforts, will exhibit at IH/M&RS for the first time.
