The 92nd annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show will be colored green, political and technological when it convenes Nov. 10-13 in New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
The American Hotel & Lodging Association's fall conference will run simultaneously with IH/M&RS. Centerpiece of the AH&LA's annual confab is the Hospitality Leadership Forum it sponsors on Saturday, Nov. 10.
For the first time, IH/M&RS will present a pavilion of sustainable products. In addition, in partnership with Green Lodging News and the Green Restaurant Association, IH/M&RS will introduce the first annual Green Hotelier Award and Green Restaurateur Award.
On the political front, power couple James Carville and Mary Matalin will deliver the 2007 IH/M&RS keynote address at the Nov. 10 Hospitality Leadership Forum. Their discussion is sure to highlight a full day of events designed for senior-level hospitality managers.
Carville, a regular commentator on CNN, helped guide Bill Clinton to his first presidential term. Matalin, who is known for her conservative viewpoint, recently served as both assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney.
Topics to be covered in breakout sessions following the keynote include human resources, maximizing f&b revenues, and web-based guest feedback. Ed Watkins, editor of Lodging Hospitality magazine, will moderate “Operators Face the Hot Button Issues,” a session featuring Tony Mangano of the Ramada Syracuse, Cristina Lussi of the Crowne Plaza Lake Placid, John Fitzpatrick of Fitzpatrick Hotels, Vijay Dandapani of Apple Core Hotels, former AH&LA Chairman Gene Rupnik and Eric Long of the Waldorf-Astoria. Late-afternoon panels that day will touch on data security and PCI standards; capital expenditures in the hotel industry; and the “going green initiative.”
The 4th annual hospitality leadership forum will feature CEO Leadership and U.S. Lodging Industry Summit panels during which top industry executives will discuss the current state of lodging and speculate on its future.
Other aspects of the AH&LA fall conference:
A HotelPAC reception Nov. 10 at The InterContinental The Barclay
The Nov. 11 inauguration of Felcor Lodging Trust Chairman Thomas J. Corcoran Jr. as AH&LA chairman for 2008, at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan.
“A View From the Top” panel of CEOs discussing the requisites for lodging-industry success, presented by the AH&LA Women in Lodging Council, along with “How Lodging's Leading Vendors Take It to the Top,” an interactive seminar sponsored by AH&LA's Allied Executive Committee. Following the AH&LA WIL panel will be a luncheon presentation, “Life Coaching to Get Your Career on Track.” All these presentations take place Nov. 12
Stephen F. Bollenbach, co-chairman and CEO of Hilton Hotels Corp., will be honored with the AH&LA Hospitality Heritage Award Nov. 13. The presentation will take place at the AH&LA Educational Foundation Dinner that Monday evening at the Hilton New York.
While green is the color of this IH/M&RS, another hot button is technology. Guestroom 2010 will make its sophomore appearance at the New York show. This summer, its second version highlighted the Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition & Conference (HITEC) in Orlando.
Among products to be displayed are the Quiet Ionic Lighted Hair Dryer by Andis Company; the Oxygenics Resort Spa Self-Pressurizing Showerhead; and Digital Door Viewer by First View Security.
Another sophomore appearance on the schedule is Destination Design, a program geared toward designers, property owners and operators.
The show is expected to convene some 1,400 exhibitors and 35,000 industry professionals. Organized into vertical market categories, exhibitors will showcase the newest products and services for hospitality, covering f&b, furnishings, technology, equipment, amenities, tableware, linens, and more.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 10; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 11 and 12; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 13. Visit www.ihmrs.com for more information.
