Phone Prank Leads to Trashed Hotel
Pity the poor desk clerk at a Holiday Inn Express in Conway, AR. A prank call to the property last Saturday night led to $50,000 in damage to the property. According to a story on The Smoking Gun website, a caller to the property identified himself as a representative of a sprinkler company. The clerk, Christina Bergmann, unfortunately followed the caller's advice and proceeded to trash the hotel's lobby.
The caller told the clerk to pull the fire alarm as a way to reset the system. Then, following the caller's directions and with the help of a hotel guest, she smashed windows, shut the building's electricity and broke a sprinkler head, resulting in a flooded lobby.
A Holiday Inn in Little Rock received a similar call but with less-disastrous results. According to the report, police in Arkansas are bracing for additional incidents.
