Billions More For Las Vegas
The Las Vegas development machine continues to chug along. Fueled by the condo hotel boom, several major projects have been announced for Sin City in the past two months:
Movie star George Clooney and nightclub impresario Rande Gerber are part of a group that plans to build Las Ramblas, a $3-billion off-Strip mixed-used project that will combine hotel and condo spaces with casinos, shopping and dining venues in an urban-like streetscape.
The project includes 300 hotel rooms, 2,674 residential condos, 1326 condo-hotel units and 19 bungalows in 11 high-rise buildings. The design team for the project includes heavyweights Arquitectonica, Phillppe Starck and Keith Hobbs.
W Hotels will land in Las Vegas in 2008. The Starwood brand is working with Edge Resorts to develop a $1.7-billion residential, hotel and retail project on Harmon Avenue near the Las Ramblas development and not far from the existing Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
Components of the project include 3,000 hotel and residential units, 10-plus dining and nightlife outlets, a 75,000-square-foot casino, Bliss Spa & Gym and 300,000 square feet of meeting space.
Final plans were unveiled last month for the renovation and transformation of the Aladdin Hotel & Casino into a Planet Hollywood property. In addition to a new lobby and a renovated and expanded casino floor, the developers are adding a 1,500-seat showroom and several new restaurants and clubs. A new tower will be built to accommodate an additional 1,000 timeshare, condo and hotel units.
The work will be done in phases and the property will remain open during the project, which should be completed by the end of 2006.
