Aramark Harrison Lodging
AHL will manage the Desmond Tutu Education Center in New York City. Due to open in September, the center will include 8,000 square feet of conference space and 60 restored guestrooms.
Properties recently joining the membership organization include the 141-room Best Western Des Moines (IA) Airport Hotel; the Best Western Port Columbus (OH); the Best Western Refugio (TX) Inn; and the Best Western Capital Inn in Jefferson City, MO.
Carlson added 16 locations to its portfolio during the first quarter of 2007. The new hotels include three Radisson SAS properties in Kazakhstan, Norway and France; three Radisson Hotels & Resorts hotels, in California and Arizona, and one managed hotel in Arizona; a new spa hotel in Chile; four Park Inn hotels in Michigan, Russia, Belgium and France; two Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts properties in India and China; and three Country Inns & Suites By Carlson hotels in Maryland, Indiana and Illinois.
In September, Radisson Edwardian Hotels will open a new four-star, 169-room hotel at its New Providence Wharf development in London's Docklands.
Cambria Suites executed its first international franchise agreements while surpassing the 50-contract milestone. The first property will be a 134-room hotel in Vaughan, Ontario, and second will be in Waterloo, Ontario. The hotels are owned by Rob Hans, a Canadian real estate mogul.
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts
The 235-room Fairmont Le Montreux Palace, Lake Geneva, Switzerland, joined the collection of landmark hotels.
The company will add “by Hilton” branding to its Doubletree, Embassy Suites and Hampton hotels opening in Canada and Latin America in the future. The decision will not affect U.S. hotels.
Embassy Suites will open its first hotel in Montreal, Quebec this July. The 210-suite hotel is owned by Aquilini Group Properties and managed by Pacrim Hospitality Services.
The Embassy Suites Fort Worth-Downtown (TX) opened. It's owned and operated by Pearl Real Estate.
Alex. Brown Realty, Inc. and Presidian Companies will develop a 203-room Hilton Garden Inn in Sugar Land, TX. Opening is planned for late spring 2008.
Hilton will manage two new Doubletree by Hilton hotels in China: the Doubletree by Hilton Beijing with 455 guestrooms and 98 residences; and the Doubletree by Hilton Kunshan with 397 guestrooms.
In April, the Hyatt Place brand in April reached a total of 29 hotels operating in 13 states. The brand is on track to open 120 hotels by December.
Hyatt Place broke ground on four properties that are slated to open in spring 2008. They include a 117-room hotel in South Bend/Mishawaka, IN, developed by First Hospitality Group; a 127-room hotel in Jacksonville, FL, developed by Silver Companies and MMI Hotel Group; a 115-room hotel in Chesapeake, VA; and a 127-room hotel in Reno, NV, developed by InterMountain Management.
Carlisle Corp. will manage the 240-room Hyatt Regency Memphis (TN) Hotel and Spa at One Beale. The hotel will be located at the base of the $175-million mixed-use tower slated to open in 2010.
Hyatt will operate the 286-room Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf, scheduled to open in 2010.
Staybridge Suites launched in the Middle East region with four properties in the pipeline. They are located in UAE, Kuwait and Egypt.
Luckey's Management opened a 71-room Candlewood Suites hotel near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Port Everglades Seaport.
Langham Hotels International
Langham Place Hotel, Beijing, opens next year, marking the company's first development in China. It will feature 440 guestrooms and suites and 40 apartments.
Equity Inns, Inc. purchased five Marriott-branded hotels for a total price of $114.2 million from partnerships controlled by the principals of Huntington Hotels. The properties include a 150-suite Residence Inn at the Los Angeles International Airport; a 95-suite Residence Inn and 137-suite SpringHill Suites in San Diego; a 184-room Courtyard by Marriott and 116-room Fairfield Inn & Suites in Dallas.
The Wentworth By the Sea, A Marriott Hotel & Spa in New Castle (Portsmouth), NH, was named Marriott Hotel of the Year.
Recent Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott openings include properties in Ruston, LA; Bessemer, AL; Lafayette, LA; and Edison, NJ.
Recent Courtyard by Marriott openings include hotels in Wall Township, NJ; Alcoa, TN; and Valencia, CA.
JER Partners and Sage Hospitality Resources will redevelop the former TN Building in Portland, OR into a 256-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel. The property is slated to open in April 2009.
InnVentures, Inc. last month opened a 119-suite SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Vancouver, WA.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts
The 214-room Westin Minneapolis (MN) opened recently. It's located in the historic Farmers & Mechanics Bank Building downtown.
A 400-room Westin is under development at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. Developer Ocean Properties Ltd. Hotels and Resorts plans to open the property in 2010.
Recent Sheraton openings include the Sheraton Baltimore Washington Airport, Linthicum, MD; the Sheraton Miyako Hotel, Osaka, Japan; the Sheraton Miyako Hotel, Tokyo, Japan; and the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort.
The Sheraton Bal Harbour (FL) will close in July in order to begin construction on the St. Regis Resort & Residences, Bal Harbour, a five-star resort and condominium.
The new-build St. Regis Hotel & Residences, Jakarta will open in 2011. It will feature 176 guestrooms and 284 whole-ownership residential units.
Starwood continues expansion in India with the signing of 11 franchise agreements with ITC Ltd. Seven existing Sheraton hotels in India will be reflagged under Starwood's The Luxury Collection brand. Also, franchise agreements for three existing Sheraton hotels have been extended and an existing Welcomhotel in Delhi will be rebranded as a Sheraton. The seven Luxury Collection hotels are located in Bangalore, New Delhi, Agra, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata, while the four Sheraton properties are located in Chennai, Jaipur and New Delhi.
The Rivanna River Resort near Charlottesville, VA joined The Lexington Collection. The 64-suite resort is under construction and due to open in late 2008. It will have a spa, conference center, pool and tennis courts.
Americas Best Value Inn added 63 properties to the brand between January and May. Three of the properties added are new construction and the balance are conversions.
