AmericInn International

The 200th AmericInn property opened in Jackson, MN in late June. KAAT Development owns and Three Rivers Hospitality manages the 52-unit Lodge & Suites.

Transcend Properties signed a franchise agreement to open a 52-room AmericInn Lodge & Suites in McCall, ID. The property will open in late 2006.

Best Western International

Additions to the membership chain include the 26-room Best Western Colonel Butler Inn in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON, Canada; the 56-unit Best Western Sebastian (FL) Hotel & Suites; the 130-room Best Western Diplomat Inn in Norcross, GA; the 72-room Best Western Sumner Crest in Wesley Chapel, FL; the 44-unit Best Western Adena Inn in Chillicothe, OH; the 147-room Best Western I-17 MetroCenter Inn in Phoenix; the 86-room Best Western Golden Triangle Inn in San Diego; and the 158-room Best Western Crown Park Hotel in Durham, NC.

Choice Hotels International

New Quality Inn Hotels opened recently in Memphis and Galveston, TX. The Comfort brand added a number of properties in June, including the 78-room Comfort Suites at Thumper Pond Resort in Ottertail, MN and an 81-room Comfort Suites in Coralville, IA.

Recent Clarion Hotel openings include properties in College Station, TX and Colorado Springs, CO.

Other additions to the Choice system include a 71-unit Sleep Inn & Suites in Springdale, AR and a new-construction 65-room Econo Lodge in Valdosta, GA.

Destination Hotels & Resorts

The Denver-based management company recently added its 33rd property: the 18-room Prospector Inn at Suncadia in Roslyn, WA. Suncadia is a mixed-use destination resort developed by Jeld-Wen, Inc. and Lowe Enterprises, Destination's parent company.

Hilton Family of Hotels

The first Conrad Hotel in Japan opened last month in Tokyo. The 290-room property occupies the top 10 floors of the 37-story Tokyo Shiodome Building. The first Conrad in the Caribbean will be in The Bahamas. The chain signed a management agreement to operate the 250-room Conrad Bimini Bay Resort and Casino. It will open in 2008.

Two new Homewood Suites by Hilton opened recently. Apple REIT Six owns and White Lodging Services operates the new 104-unit Homewood Suites in Wallingford, CT. In late June, a 199-suite Homewood opened in the St. Johns Town Center development in Jacksonville, FL.

Sixteen Hampton properties — 10 Hampton Inns and six Hampton Inn & Suites — opened between March and the end of June. Largest is the 109-unit Hampton Inn & Suites in Tahoe/Truckee, CA. A new 135-room Hampton Inn will be built on the top 17 floors of Chicago's Majestic Building, which houses the Shubert Theater. Developer is First Hospitality Group in partnership with the Nederlander Organization and Northern Realty Group.

The former Washington (DC) Terrace Hotel was reflagged recently as a Doubletree Hotel. RLJ Urban Lodging Fund owns the 220-room property, which Davidson Hotel Co. manages.

Developer John Q. Hammons opened a new Embassy Suites in the St. Louis suburb of St. Charles, MO. John Q. Hammons Hotels manages the 296-suite property.

InterContinental Hotels Group

Three Crowne Plaza properties opened in July in Enfield, CT; Chicago; and Lake Placid, NY.

Two Staybridge Suites opened recently: a 97-unit property in O'Fallon, MO and an 108-suite hotel in Hamilton, ON, Canada.

La Quinta Corp.

A former Baymont Inn in Milwaukee is now the La Quinta Inn & Suites-Milwaukee SW/New Berlin. The property is the first of several planned conversions between the brands.

Bakerao LLC broke ground last month on a new La Quinta Inn & Suites in Salida, CA near Modesto. The 67-room property will open in 2006.

Marriott International

Noble Investment Group last month opened a 122-room Courtyard by Marriott at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It is the city's first new downtown hotel in 15 years.

John Q. Hammons plans to develop a 220-room Courtyard by Marriott and an adjoining 65,000-square-foot convention center in Jonesboro, AR. John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts will manage the $45-million complex. Construction begins in late 2006.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts

When it opens in November, the Westin Bellevue in suburban Seattle will be the first hotel in the Northwest to combine hotel facilities and residential units. The property is part of Lincoln Square, a mixed-use development by Kemper Development Co. The project includes 337 hotel rooms and 148 luxury residential units.

Brentwood Hotels broke ground last month on two side-by-side Starwood properties in Linthicum, MD near the Baltimore-Washington Airport. The two hotels are a 203-room Sheraton and a 260-room Westin. The Sheraton opens late next year with the Westin following in '07.

Starwood signed a deal with Regent Partners to operate the 319-room Westin Alexandria that Regent is building in the Carlyle section of Old Town Alexandria, VA. The hotel and 70 condo units will open in 2007.

Cotton Bay Villas, a new mixed-use luxury resort under development on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas, will become part of Starwood's Luxury Collection when it opens in 2006 and '07. Developer is Eleuthera Properties Ltd.

Two additional Four Points by Sheraton will open in the next few years in China. The lineup includes two 340-room properties, one in Changshu and one in Shanghai, Pudong
