The brand company recently opened two new properties, including Red Roof Inns in Richardson, TX; Temple, TX, Lithonia, GA; Ringgold, GA; and Lake City, FL; and Motel 6s in Plano, TX; Edinburg, TX; Cameron Park, CA; Hardeeville, SC; and Atlanta.
America's Best Franchising
Two America's Best Inns opened recently in Argentina, one in Empedrado and one in Paso de la Patria. A third property in the country is under construction in San Gara.
Washington-based Northwest Hospitality Group assumed management of the Best Western Inn & Suites in Tillamook, OR. Acacia Housing Partners LP owns the 51-room property.
Meur Management LP opened a Radisson Hotel in Cartaret, NJ. Hersha Hospitality Management operates the 117-room property.
First Hospitality Group secured an equity position and has assumed management of the 120-room Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Pleasant Prairie, WI.
Sunburst Hospitality opened the Atrium Court Hotel, part of Choice's Clarion Collection, in Rockville, MD. Sunburst did an extensive renovation of an existing hotel to create the full-service property.
A groundbreaking in late July marked the start of construction for the third Cambria Suites. The Leatherman family is the franchisee of the property, which is located in suburban Akron, OH. The family also executed an agreement to develop another Cambria in Columbus, OH.
Thirty-six Choice properties opened in June. The additions included 28 in the U.S., two in Japan, two in England and one each in Canada, New Zealand, Italy and Australia.
Thirteen Hampton-branded properties opened in July. The additions to the chain include five Hampton Inns and eight Hampton Inn & Suites.
Bangkok-based Destination Properties Co. will build the Doubletree Golf Resort & Spa near Sriracha, Thailand. The 358-room property opens in 2008.
The Procaccianti Group spent $15 million to renovate and convert a former Doubletree into the Hilton Suites Chicago-Magnificent Mile. The firm acquired the 345-unit property in 2005.
An affiliate of Boykin Lodging Co. recently reopened the Doubletree Guest Suites Melbourne Beach (FL) Oceanfront. The 207-unit property was closed for two years following damage by Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne in 2004.
FelCor Lodging Trust chose Aimbridge Hospitality to manage the Embassy Suites Chicago-North Shore in Deerfield, IL.
In late July, John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts opened the John Q. Hammons Center, a 125,000-square-foot meetings facility in Rogers, AR next to the company's Embassy Suites Hotel Northwest Arkansas. A 152-suite addition to the hotel is under construction.
Six Homewood Suites by Hilton opened in the second quarter. The additions to the chain are in Chesapeake, VA; Albany, NY; Brighton, MI, Houston, Springfield, MA; and Hartford, CT.
Woodmont Properties, in partnership with The Briad Group, will develop a 108-unit Homewood Suites by Hilton as part of a mixed-use development in Dover, NJ. Construction begins early next year.
A partnership that includes the Waterford Group, Slavik, Inc. and developer Glenn Jette started construction on a new Homewood Suites in Lansing, NY near Ithaca. The 91-suite property opens next summer.
Hotel USA Partners converted a former Red Lion Hotel to the Crowne Plaza Austin (TX)-North Central. Matrix Hospitality Group manages the 292-room property.
A former independent hotel in Maracaibo, Venezuela is now the Crowne Plaza Maruma Casino & Convention Center. The property, the brand's first in the country, has 380 rooms.
Saca Development broke ground in late July on the InterContinental Sacramento (CA). The 230-room property, which will be part of a two-tower, 54-story mixed-use development, opens in mid-2008.
Westview 66 Hospitality plans to build a Candlewood Suites hotel in Manassas, VA near Dulles Airport. The 100-room property opens at the end of 2007.
Driftwood Hospitality recently opened the fourth Hotel Indigo, a 140-room property in uptown Houston. The chain also plans Indigos in Dallas and San Antonio.
Madison Northeast LLC is developing a new-generation prototype Holiday Inn in Madison, WI. Six Titles Management will operate the 139-room property.
Campbell Lodging, Inc. opened a 108-unit SpringHill Suites in Laredo, TX.
Developers Albert Small and Bernard Gewirz will build a 147-room Courtyard by Marriott in the Foggy Bottom area of Washington, DC.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts
Ocean Properties Ltd. converted a former Hilton to The Westin Key West (FL) Resort & Marina. The owners will execute a multi-million-dollar renovation of the property that will include the addition of 37 residential-style cottages on a private island 500 yards offshore.
The Barber Group will develop The Westin on 45th, a mixed-use lodging development in Rogers, AR. The project, which Sage Hospitality will manage, includes 325 hotel rooms and 50 condo units.
Focus Lodging Group recently opened the Sheraton Independence Hotel, a 179-room property in suburban Cleveland.
Financial Street Huizhou Real Estate Co. is developing the Sheraton Huizhou Resort in the Guangdong province of China.
Akaretler Otel Isletmeciligive Turizm will open a W Hotel in Istanbul, Turkey in late 2007.
Two new Four Points by Sheraton are slated to open in 2008 in China. Tianjin City Sun Real Estate Development Co. is developing the Four Points Tianjin, Zhong-dshan, while Zhejiang Dragon Happy Investment will open a Four Points in Hangzhou.
