Accor North America
Seven franchise Accor properties opened recently, including Motel 6s in Lafayette, In: Stoughton, WI; Bee-ville, TX; Dalton, GA; and San Antonio, TX; and Red Roof Inns in Pharr, TX and Rancho Cordova, CA.
Krabbe's LLC opened an AmericInn Lodge & Suites in Appleton, WI. The 64-room property is the chain's 44th in the state. The chain has 204 properties.
ARAMARK Harrison Lodging
The Ohio State Park Resort system chose ARAMARK Harrison Lodging to manage the Deer Creek Resort & Conference Center in Mt. Sterling near Columbus.
Best Western International
Newest addition to the membership group is the Best Western Bradford Inn in Swainsboro, GA. Jayesh Patel owns the 50-room property.
Carlson Hotels Worldwide
Carlson Hotels Worldwide added seven properties to its portfolio in March. The additions include a Radisson in China, two Country Inns & Suites in the U.S., two Park Plaza Hotels in Canada and Germany and two Park Inns in Ireland and the Russian Federation. The new North American hotels are Country Inns & Suites in Beavercreek, OH and Vadnais Heights, MN and a Park Plaza Hotel in Vancouver, BC.
Cendant Hotel Group
Cendant plans to merge the properties in its AmeriHost Inn franchise system into the newly acquired Baymont Inn & Suites brand. To expedite the rebranding, Cendant will offer qualifying AmeriHost franchisees a free lease for new exterior property signage.
Tecton Hospitality's Desires Hotels boutique division will manage Hotel La Mela, a 235-room property that opens this summer in midtown Manhattan.
Global Hyatt recently purchased a full ownership interest in the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome from Bouygues Immobilier and Credit Foncier. The 178-room property will continue to operate under the Park Hyatt name.
Golden Tulip Hospitality
Netherlands-based Golden Tulip Hospitality plans to reenter the U.S. hotel market. Its second property (the first is an existing franchise hotel in Bethesda, MD) will be a 300-room resort and conference center in McKinney, TX, near Dallas. Crescent Development Group is building the property, which will open in 2008.
Tinwood Hospitality recently opened a GuestHouse International Inn & Suites in Pueblo, CO. The former Best Western has 70 rooms and two suites.
Hilton Hotels Corp.
John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts will build a nine-story Embassy Suites Hotel in Norman, OK. The 240-room property will be part of the University North Park mixed-used development project.
North Central Group will build an Embassy Suites in Chandler, AZ. The 156-unit property, which opens in 2008, will be the first to use the chain's new-generation prototype concept.
The former St. Louis Pavilion Hotel last month became the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark. Lodging Hospitality Management Corp. owns and operates the 657-room property.
Carlton Hospitality last month opened an 85-room new-construction Hilton Garden Inn in Tallahassee, FL.
Developer Richard Kessler will build a 150-room Hampton Inn & Suites as part of the $100-million Capital Plaza III development in downtown Orlando.
InterContinental Hotels Group
Panama-based Bern Hotels & Resorts opened the InterContinental Playa Bonita Resort & Spa near Panama City in late March. The beachfront property has 300 rooms.
Alex S. Palmer & Co. plans to build the 285-room InterContinental Nashville as part of the West End Summit hotel, residential and office complex. The hotel opens in late 2008.
Holiday Inn signed a three-year sponsorship agreement to be the official hotel of Major League Baseball. In addition, the brand signed sponsorship agreements with five teams: the Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins.
A former independent hotel in downtown Baltimore will become a Holiday Inn Express. Baywood Hotels owns and manages the 123-room property.
Key West Inns
In an effort to jump-start its growth, Birmingham, AL-based Key West Inns has made changes to its franchise offering. Part of the plan includes a $1-per-room-per-day flat royalty fee and a 12-month license agreement.
A partnership between Kimpton Hotels and ING Clarion will spend $22 million to transform a former Holiday Inn Select in Old Town Alexandria, VA into a Hotel Monaco. The 227-room property will reopen in mid-2007.
A 65-story, 500-unit condominium hotel will open in 2009 near Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. The Mandarin Oriental Tower will include 250 guestrooms, 100 residences and 150 condominiums.
The former Pan Pacific Hotel in San Francisco is now a JW Marriott Hotel. Owner Ashford Hospitality plans a multi-million-dollar renovation of the 338-room, John Portman-designed property.
Developer John Q. Hammons opened a Residence Inn in Joplin, Mo in mid-April. John Q. Hammons Hotels LLC manages the 114-suite property.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts
Following a $52-million renovation, the landmark US Grant Hotel in San Diego will reopen in November under management of Starwood's Luxury Collection.
The Al Futtaim Group is developing the W Dubai Festival City, the brand's first location in the Middle East. The 250-room property, which opens in 2008, is part of the Festival City mixed-use development.
Shanghai Forrester Development Ltd. will open a Four Points by Sheraton in Shanghai, China. The 315-room hotel will be the ninth Starwood property in the city and the sixth Four Points in China.
US Franchise Systems
A recently renovated Hawthorn Suites opened in early April in Galveston, TX. Spectrum Organization manages the 230-unit property.
Walt Disney World Resorts
Walt Disney Resorts was inadvertently left out of The Brand Report in the March 1 issue of Lodging Hospitality. The company has 20 resorts with 25,545 rooms.
