Best Western International
Recent additions to the membership chain include the Best Western Perimeter North in Doraville, GA; the Best Western Lake Okeechobee (FL); the Best Western Perryton (TX) Inn; the Best Western Mainland Inn and Suites in Texas City, TX; and the Best Western Evans Hotel in Grovetown, GA.
Carlson Hotels Worldwide
Carlson Hotels opened eight franchised properties in January. New North American properties include Radisson Hotels in Glendale, WI and Tulsa, OK, a Park Plaza Hotel in Toronto, ON, Canada and a Country Inns & Suites in Grand Rapids, MI. Other openings included three Radisson SAS properties in Europe and one in Dubai.
Atlanta-based Sivica Hospitality assumed the management contract for an 84-room Wingate Inn in Alpharetta, GA. Franchisee P.D. Patel owns the 10-year-old property.
Corcoran Jennison Cos. chose ClubCorp to manage its Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club in Brewster, MA. The owner plans to spend $20 million in the next two years to renovate the 336-room property.
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts
The Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley opened in late January in East Palo Alto, CA. Hill Glazier Architects designed the 200-room property.
GuestHouse opened its first property in China. The 176-room GuestHouse International Hotel Sanya in Hainan Province was developed in partnership with Jia Bin International Ltd.
Hilton Hotels Corp.
The Hampton brand opened 13 properties in December and January. Additions to the brand include seven Hampton Inns and six Hampton Inns & Suites. Construction began on another 17 Hampton properties during the two months.
New Homewood Suites by Hilton include a 94-suite property in Daytona Beach, FL and a 124-unit hotel in downtown Salt Lake City.
Global Hyatt Corp.
The company has changed the name of its upscale extended stay brand to Hyatt Summerfield Suites. The company recently bought the brand, which includes 15 franchised and six company-owned properties, from The Blackstone Group and others. The name changes will begin later this year following renovations to the properties.
InterContinental Hotels Group
A new Candlewood Suites opened early last month in Joplin, MO. Extended Stay of Joplin owns and Elliot Lodging manages the 83-room property.
Construction started in late January on a next-generation Holiday Inn in Battle Creek, MI. Battle Creek Hotel Limited Partnership is developing the 120-unit property, which will open later this year. Focus Hospitality Services is the operator.
The fourth Holiday Inn Express in Las Vegas will open this fall. The 110-room property is near I-215 not far from the Strip. Rainbow Hotel LLC owns and Trigild will manage the hotel.
The second Kimpton Hotel in New York City opened last month. The 200-room Muse Hotel and District Restaurant near Times Square will undergo a $5-million renovation. Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers, a subsidiary of MassMutual Financial Group, owns the hotel.
Developer David Gostfand chose Kimpton to operate The Harrick, an all-suite boutique hotel he's building in downtown West Palm Beach, FL. The 138-room property will open in fall 2007.
New full-service Marriott properties include the Augusta (GA) Marriott Hotel & Suites and the Marriott Chicago Midway Airport. The Augusta property is a former Radisson, while the Chicago Marriott had been a Holiday Inn Select.
The Coralville Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, the first smoke-free full-service hotel in Iowa, will open in mid-August. A percentage of guestroom receipts from the 286-room hotel will be donated to tobacco-related research at a University of Iowa cancer center.
The former Wyndham City Center Hotel in Washington, DC will become the Renaissance M Street Hotel this fall following an $18.5-million renovation. A joint venture between Westbrook Partners and Northview Hotel Group owns the 355-room property.
Developer John Q. Hammons broke ground last month on a Residence Inn at the Kansas City airport. John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts will manage the 150-unit property, which opens this fall.
In January, Alabama-based LBA Properties opened one Marriott-branded hotel and started construction on another one. A 79-room Spring-Hill Suites opened in Clearwater, FL, while ground was broken on an 84-room Courtyard by Marriott in Hattiesburg, MS.
Remington Hotel Corp.
Construction will start later this year on the first Remington-branded hotel, the $200-million Remington Las Montanas Hotel Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, CA. The condo hotel will open in early 2008. The resort will also feature a spa, conference facility and a range of recreational amenities.
IBC Bank selected Remington Hotels to manage the 217-room Doubletree Hotel Novi in suburban Detroit.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts
DCG Properties Ltd. and Starwood will build a 232-unit Westin condo-hotel as the centerpiece of Le Paradis, a luxury development on St. Lucia in the Caribbean. The property will open next year.
Grande Equity Development Co. is developing a new Le Meridien on Jomtien Beach in the Thailand resort of Pattaya. The 250-room resort will open in early 2009.
A new Four Points by Sheraton opened in late January at the Toronto airport. The franchisee, Royal Equator, Inc., renovated, expanded and converted a former Days Hotel to create the Four Points.
Starwood completed an agreement to operate the Westin Zhejiang Resort at Nine Dragon Hill in China. The 350-room property debuts in mid-2008.
US Franchise Systems
Grupo Casa Grande opened a 113-room Microtel Inn & Suites in Culiacan, Sinola Mexico. The company also owns a Microtel is Chihuahua, Mexico.
