Properties recently joining the membership organization include the 54-unit Best Western Pointe Hotel and Suites-AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX; the 214-room Best Western Oceanfront Virginia Beach, VA; the 56-room Best Western Auburn/Opelika (AL) Inn; the 57-room Best Western Mount Pleasant (TX) Inn; 58-unit Best Western Roanoke (TX) Inn and Suites; the 87-unit Best Western University Park Inn & Suites, Ames, IA; the 60-unit Best Western Sherwood (AR) Inn and Suites; and the 62-unit Best Western Oasis of the Sun, Anthony, TX.
Best Western International and Cabana Hotels are teaming up to develop over the next 10 years more than 100 hotels and 10,000 rooms in India. Cabana Hotels will represent the Best Western brand in India, provide hotel management services and establish an advanced hotel management institute in Bhubaneshwar.
Carlson opened 13 new hotels in April and May. Among the properties are The Regent Palms Turks and Caicos managed by Regent Hotels & Resorts in the British West Indies; two Radisson SAS hotels in Ireland; two Radisson Hotels & Resorts hotels in the U.S.; five Country Inns & Suites by Carlson, including one in Canada and four in the U.S.; and two Park Inn hotels in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
A new 108-room Country Inn & Suites by Carlson opened in Niagara Falls, ON.
Radisson Edwardian Hotels will open a new four-star property in Aberdeen, Scotland in 2009. It will be the company's 15th property, and the third hotel outside of the London area.
Hilton Hotels Corp. will partner with Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) brands Guerlain and Acqua di Parma and Spa Chakra to offer exclusive spa services and boutique products in many of its luxury and upscale hotels. The agreement covers Waldorf=Astoria Collection hotels, Conrad Hotels & Resorts and selected Hilton hotels.
Hilton formed three development alliances to introduce more than 15 new hotels in the Caribbean and Central America, 25 hotels in Russia and at least 15 hotels in the U.K. over the next five years. HHC will work with Caribbean Property Group for development within Central America and the Caribbean; London & Regional Properties Limited in Russia; and Shiva Hotels Limited in the U.K and Ireland.
Hampton opened 15 properties in May, representing 937 new rooms.
The historic 250-room Hilton New Orleans St. Charles Avenue and the 313-room Hilton Shreveport opened recently. The 248-room Hilton Dallas/Southlake Town Square Hotel opened in June.
Recent Hilton Garden Inn openings include the 126-room Hilton Garden Inn Harrisburg (PA) East; the 100-room Hilton Garden Inn Oconomowoc, WI; and the 129-room Hilton Garden Inn at Albany Medical Center.
Homewood Suites by Hilton celebrated the brand's 200th property, with the opening of the Fort Collins, CO Homewood Suites by Hilton.
Prism Hotels & Resorts reflagged the former Radisson Hotel Historic Richmond (VA) as the Doubletree Hotel Richmond Downtown, which recently completed an $8.9-million renovation of its 230 rooms.
Noble Investment Group will acquire six AmeriSuites hotels from an affiliate of Global Hyatt Corp. that will be converted to the new Hyatt Place brand by year's end. Also, Noble completed the management conversion of the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel and Spa, Sonoma County, CA, which it acquired in March.
IHG will operate three hotels and more than 800 rooms in Changzhou, near Shanghai. Consisting of one Crowne Plaza hotel and two Holiday Inn Express hotels within a city center commercial complex, the three hotels will be developed by Top Spring Group, a Hong Kong retail investment and real estate developer.
Crescent Hotels & Resorts will operate the 220-room Quality Inn in Sparks, NV on behalf of an affiliate of the Navnish Group. The hotel will be converted to a Holiday Inn following a $6-million renovation.
American Hotel Development Partners, LLC will develop a Holiday Inn hotel in suburban Tampa, FL. The 150-room hotel will open in 2008.
Crestline Hotels & Resorts is the new management company for the Crowne Plaza Fairfield (NJ) hotel. True North Fairfield Property Partners recently purchased the 204-room property.
The 96-room Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Medellin, Columbia opened last month. The hotel is owned by Grupo Suites S.A. de CV.
The 109-room InterContinental Porto Palacio Das Cardosas, Portugal, is slated to open at the end of 2009.
IHG will manage with Statuto Group the new InterContinental Milan Grand Hotel Duomo, Italy. The 137-room hotel is slated to open in 2008 after renovation.
La Quinta Inns & Suites
La Quinta opened nine hotels in May, including properties in Warner Robbins, GA; Stephenville, TX; Rosenberg, TX; Missoula, MT; Wytheville, VA; Sevierville, TN; Everett, WA; Granbury, TX; and Dublin, GA.
Winegardner & Hammons, Inc. broke ground on its first Renaissance Hotel & Resort. The 263-room Renaissance Indianapolis (IN) North Hotel in Carmel is due to open summer 2008.
Interstate Hotels & Resorts will manage the 484-room Oakland (CA) Marriott City Center and the 162-room Courtyard by Marriott Oakland Downtown.
A 968-room Marriott-branded hotel is planned for the Macao Studio City complex in Macao, China. The hotel will open in 2009 under agreement with East Asia-Televisao Por Satellite Limitada.
Recent SpringHill Suites by Marriott openings include properties in Modesto, CA; Council Bluffs, IA; Gainesville, FL; and Indianapolis, IN.
Courtyard by Marriott hotels are now open in Grand Junction, CO; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Merced, CA.
The 79-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in East Ridge, TN, opened last month. It's owned by Krishnaguru, Inc. and managed by 3H Group, Inc.
A Residence Inn by Marriott recently opened in O'Fallon, MO. Corporex Select Service Hotels owns and True North Hotel Group manages the 108-suite property.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts
The 136-room aloft Charleston (SC) Airport & Convention Center broke ground in May as did the 251-room aloft Chicago O'Hare.
Starwood signed deals with four development companies to open seven aloft hotels in Texas. Developers include HAC Partners, Summit Hotel Partners, Santa Fe IV Hotel and 5434 Westheimer. Groundbreakings are scheduled for 2007 and 2008.
The Sheraton Cable Beach Resort opened in Nassau, The Bahamas last month. It's owned by Baha Mar Resorts Ltd.
The company is adding nearly 2,400 rooms in Thailand and Indochina this year. The hotels under development include the first W hotel in Southeast Asia and the third W resort worldwide — W Retreat & Residences, Koh Samui. Four Points by Sheraton is also opening its first hotels in Southeast Asia — Four Points by Sheraton Angkor, Cambodia and Four Points by Sheraton Halong Bay, Vietnam. In addition, five Le Meridien hotels are opening in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Suvarnabhumi and Pattaya.
Other new hotels include a Luxury Collection hotel in Koh Samui and Sheratons in Hua Hin and Halong Bay.
