A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE
He's a successful conference impresario, a consultant, expert witness and respected lodging management guru. But 40-plus-year hotel industry veteran Morris Lasky is probably best known as The Hotel Doctor for his ability to diagnose and provide solutions for ailing hotel operations.
Through his Chicago-based consulting company Lodging Unlimited, Lasky recently began offering a Streamline Study as an alternative to lengthy and expensive analyses of operations or marketing problems at a hotel. The study, priced at $10,000 plus expenses (versus $25,000 to $100,000 for a full-blown study) includes a two-day site visit by Lasky, an immediate verbal review with the client and a follow-up letter summarizing the findings.
In the past few months, Lasky has employed Streamline Studies to help owners and operators with a variety of issues:
Lasky helped an inexperienced ownership group negotiate a more favorable management contract.
A company planning to buy a hotel and resell it quickly asked Lasky for his opinion. The study showed that if the purchasers close on the property and spend a small amount on renovation, it could be worth three times the purchase price within three years.
Lasky advised a company that was about to make an offer to purchase a hotel that the price was too high. As a result, the group revised its offer and reentered negotiations.
