Happy B-Day TripRewards
What better way to celebrate a first birthday than with cake? Cendant Hotel Group took the tradition one step further to mark the first anniversary of its TripRewards loyalty program by staging a cake-eating contest.
Held last month at Grand Central Station in New York City, the contest pitted amateurs and professional speed eaters to see who could be the fastest to devour a five-pound cake. The winner, a 62-year-old, 130-pound pro from Nevada nicknamed The Locust, consumed the celebratory dessert in 11 minutes, 26 seconds.
For his troubles, the champion, Rick LeFevre, won one million TripReward points. One amateur contestant of note was former Chicago Bears defensive end William “The Refrigerator” Perry.
Since its launch one year ago, the TripRewards program has collected more than four million members.
