Former Starwood Hotels executive Norman MacLeod launched Hay Creek Hospitality, a hotel ownership, management and consulting firm. He had been executive vice president of Sheraton Hotels.
HVS International presented Hersha Hospitality CEO Hasu Shah with its Lodging Leadership Award as the lodging industry's top performing CEO in 2004, based on a pay-for-performance model developed by HVS Executive Search. Also at Hersha, Michael Gillespie joined the company as chief accounting officer.
Yvonne La Penotiere was named president of Carlson Hotels Worldwide-the Americas. She had been executive VP for brand marketing of the firm.
Driftwood Hospitality Management named three new general managers: Raymond Smith at the Courtyard by Marriott at the Richmond Airport, Jonathan Carter at the Crowne Plaza in Allentown, PA and Jeff Whitehead at the River Terrace Inn in Napa Valley, CA.
Scott Pierce was named president and COO of the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association. Pierce, who had been an executive VP with Advanstar Communications, succeeds Anthony Marshall, who moved to the University of Central Florida as a professor in lodging management.
New president and COO of Benchmark Hospitality International is Sam Haigh. He had been COO of the Houston-based management company for the past 10 years.
George Markantonis will succeed the retiring Paul O'Neill as president/managing director of Kerzner International Bahamas. Markantonis held a similar position at Kerzner's Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai. O'Neill retires in early 2006.
InterContinental Hotels Group named two new vice presidents of development for the Americas. Irene Hoek will focus on InterContinental Hotels, while Bill Bagwill handles develop opportunities in the Southeast for the Crowne Plaza and InterContinental brands.
Greg Brown joined La Quinta Corp. as vice president of consumer relationships. He had been managing director, leisure, corporate products and international sales, for American Airlines.
Luis Aloma was named general manager of the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick (NJ). Most recently, he was GM of the Hyatt Regency Rochester (NY).
Bob Marlowe was promoted to executive vice president of ShoLodge, Inc. He had been secretary, treasurer and CFO of the Tennessee-based firm.
New general manager of the Halekulani in Honolulu is Janis Clapoff. She joins the resort from the Simpson House Inn in Santa Barbara, CA, where she was managing partner.
Omni Hotels named Joanne Tripp director of national accounts in its Washington, DC office. She had been senior sales manager at the Omni Richmond Hotel.
