Record franchise development and improved brand management have led to the promotion of Joseph M. Squeri to executive vice president, operations, and chief financial officer for Choice Hotels. The promotion gives Squeri additional responsibilities in franchise services, partner services and information tech- nology.
Anthony Marshall has accepted the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association professorship in lodging management at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and has resigned as president of the Education Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation. In other education news, Michael Johnson is the new dean of the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. He assumes his duties in July 2006.
David Marriott, senior vice president of global and field sales for Marriott International, has been named chairman of the board of benefactors of the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind.
The U.S. Commerce Department's Small Business Administration named Carlson Companies Chairman and CEO Marilyn Carlson Nelson Businesswoman of the Year. Since 2002, Nelson has served as an active chair of the SBA's National Women's Business Council.
Mickey Schneider is the new general manager of the Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers. Most recently, he was general manager of the Sheraton Tel Aviv Hotel and Towers in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Veteran luxury lodging sales figure Robert Filipelli was named director of sales and marketing at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa. He comes to the Biltmore from the Wyndham El Con- quistador Resort & Golden Door Spa and Las Casitas Village & Golden Door Spa in Puerto Rico.
The Great Wolf Lodge resort under construction in Pennsylvania's Poconos Mountains has a general manager: Dale McFarland, former vice president of ARAMARK Parks West. Great Wolf's sixth resort, a 401-suite, north woods-themed facility, is to open in Scotrun, PA in October.
Eagle Hospitality Properties Trust named Raymond D. Martz chief financial officer. He comes to the Covington, KY REIT from LaSalle Hotel Properties, where he was treasurer.
Melanie Penoyar was named director of development and awards competition for the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI). In the newly created post, Poyar will combine partnerships and fundraising with overseeing the annual HSMAI Adrian Awards Competition.
Host Marriott Corp. veteran Ken Cruse has joined Sunstone Hotel Investors as senior vice president-asset management/-corporate transactions. He had been vice president, corporate finance at Host.

The annual Travel Business Roundtable presented J.W. Marriott Jr. its Leadership in Tourism award, recognizing the chairman and CEO of Marriott International for his lifelong commitment to the travel and tourism industry.
Reunion Resort & Club of Orlando has a general manager: Bob Van Bergen, who moves to the 2,300-acre resort under construction near Walt Disney World from The Club at Hammock Beach, another Ginn Clubs & Resorts community.
Former InterContinental Hotels executive Jeff Senior joined Fairmont Hotels & Resorts as senior vice president, marketing & sales. He had been VP, brand management at InterContinental.
