Changes in the board of directors of Best Western International include Raymond Johnston to chairman, Charlie Helm to vice chairman and Roman Jaworowicz to secretary/treasurer. In addition, Larry McRae was re-elected to the board and Bonnie McPeake was elected to her first term on the board.
Carlson Hotels Worldwide recently promoted two key executives. Bjorn Gullaksen was named executive vice president of managed hotels & resorts. He had been EVP of full-service hotels. In addition, Nancy Johnson's role has changed from EVP of select service hotels to EVP of full-service hotels.
Loews Hotels Chairman and CEO Jonathan Tisch was elected co-chairman of the board of Loews Corp. along with Andrew Tisch. They replace the late Preston R. Tisch.
Mark Hansen joined GuestHouse International Franchise Systems as executive director of franchise development. He had been director of emerging markets and industry segmentation for Choice Hotels.
New general manager of the Wave Hotel in Miami Beach is Adolfo Mesa. He had been rooms director at the Wyndham Hotel in Dania Beach. FL.
Marriott International promoted Robert McCarthy from executive vice president to president, North American Lodging Operations. In his new role, McCarthy becomes a member of Marriott's Corporate Growth Committee and chairman of the newly created North American Leadership Council.
Hyatt Hotels made a number of management appointments: Paul Tang to vice president/managing director of the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando; Steve Dewire to opening general manager of the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa near Austin, TX; David Nadelman to GM of the Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas; and Jerry Gibson to GM of the Grand Hyatt New York.
Peter Valenzuela was named general manager of the new Sheraton Maitland Center in Orlando.
Choice Hotels promoted Alexandra Jaritz-Kendrick to vice president, development operations. She had been senior director, brand strategy.
Appointments at NYLO Hotels include Patrick O'Neil as senior vice president of operations and David Klein as general counsel. NYLO is a new loft-style, mid-priced boutique chain.
New general manager of the Holiday Inn Ventura Beach Resort in southern California is Douglas Wood. He previously held a similar post at the Crowne Plaza in San Jose, CA.
