Starwood Hotels & Resorts promoted Michael Wale to senior vice president, Le Meridien operations. He retains his role as regional director of operations for northwest Europe.

Robert Zappatelli was promoted to vice president of food and beverage for Benchmark Hospitality International. He had been GM of The Founders Inn and Benchmark's corporate director of f&b.

Red Lion Hotels promoted William Heaney to vice president, brand development. He had been vice president of sales for the chain.

Dan King is the new area managing director for Starwood Hotels & Resorts. He oversees six properties in New York City and New Jersey. He's also general manager of the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers.

Boutique operator Desires Hotels named two new general managers: Henny Schaeffer at the Hotel Astor in Miami Beach and Bob Sassani at The Water Club in San Juan, PR.

New regional director of operations and GM of the InterContinental Hotels in Cleveland is Campbell Black.

He previously held a similar position at the Mark Hopkins InterContinental in San Francisco.

Appointments at Rosewood Hotels & Resorts include James McBride to regional vice president and Andres Araya to managing director of Las Ventanas at Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort, in Los Cabos, Mexico.

Appointments at NYLO Hotels include Patrick O'Neil as senior vice president of operations and David Klein as general counsel. NYLO is a new loft-style, mid-priced boutique chain.

New general manager of the Holiday Inn Ventura Beach Resort in southern California is Douglas Wood. He previously held a similar post at the Crowne Plaza in San Jose, CA.
