Country Inn Locks Onto Miwa
Installation was a breeze, operation and maintenance are going well, and a unique motion sensor arrangement for the front door convinced the operators of a Country Inn & Suites in Cayce, SC to go with Miwa locks.
“It took two days to get all the locks installed, and that included setting up exterior magnetic stripe readers for two entrances and a magnetic locking system for the main entrance,“ says Jack McMullan, director of property systems for Capstone Management, a Greensboro, NC management company.
Capstone runs the Country Inn & Suites Columbia Airport, a 64-room property that opened last Thanksgiving. Capstone likes Miwa's style, which comes clear at the entrance to the property.
The magnetic locking system at the main entrance operates off a motion sensor in the lobby that allows the door to be locked at a specific time in the evening, says McMullan, who was there for the two-day installation. “For guests leaving, the motion sensor releases the door lock,“ he says. “It's not like a regular exit door that has the panic bars you push to release the lock.“ Here, two glass doors swing open, and the magnetic array eliminates the need for a deadbolt and a bar.
“The only thing you see is the motion sensor, a small, white box above the door,“ McMullan says. “There are electronic locks at all of our hotels and we have some way of locking the front door at a given time in the evening. This was just Miwa's methodology of handling that.“
