The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation last month renamed its AH&LA Extended Stay Council Scholarship to honor the late Steve Hymans. Hymans, who passed away in February, was vice chairman of the council and vice president of the Southeast region for Hyatt Hotels.
Chris von Imhof, vice president and managing director of the Alyseka Resort in Seibu, AK, is the 2005 Resort Executive of the Year. He received the honor from Yesawich, Pepperdine, Brown & Russell and the University of Denver at last month's Resort Management Conference at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.
New senior vice president of marketing for Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is Chad Waetzig. He had been senior vice president, select service brand management, for Marriott International.
Also at Starwood, Kenneth Siegel was promoted to chief administrative officer. He had been executive vice president and legal counsel.
Carlson Hotels promoted Steve Mogck to executive vice president of select service hotels. Mogck, who had been senior vice president of legal, oversees the Country Inns & Suites by Carlson and Park Inns brands.
Bob King, longtime president of the Georgia Hospitality and Travel Association, died last month at the age of 71. Most recently, King was chairman of the board of wireless high-speed Internet access provider StayOnline.
Recent appointments at Hilton Hotels Corp.include Jean Simmons to area vice president, Southeast; Brad Koeneman to general manager of the Hilton Atlanta; and Meredith Quarnstrom to general manager of the Hilton Atlanta Airport.
Frank Wolfe recently signed a contract to remain as executive vice president/CEO of Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals International through March 2009. Wolfe joined Austin, TX-based HFTP in 1994.
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts named Alan Campey managing director of CordeValle, its golf and spa resort in San Martin, CA. Most recently, Campey was chief assets officer for EBR Holdings, which owns the Four Seasons Resort & Spa in Exuma, Bahamas.
John Carns was named hotel manager of the Fort Lauderdale (FL) Grande Hotel & Yacht Club. He had been interim GM of the Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada, FL.
Hostmark Hospitality Group recently honored properties and associates for outstanding achievement in the past year. Among the winners were Tony Miu, Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, Chicago, General Manager of the Year-Full Service; and Jeff Arthur, Inn at Saint Mary's, South Bend, IN, General Manager of the Year-Select Service.
Benchmark Hospitality named Michael Taylor as opening general manager of The Heldrich, a conference center, hotel and spa under construction in New Brunswick, NJ. The $110-million property opens next March.
Gregory Smith was named chief financial officer and chief administrative officer of Cleveland-based Boykin Management Co. Smith returns to Boykin after 18 years with Interstate Hotels, where most recently he was vice president of international finance and regional director of finance.
Keith Poehlman joined Hersha Hospitality Management as vice president and corporate controller. He previously held a similar position with Starr Restaurant Organization.
