Rosen Lends Helping Hand
Hotelier/philanthropist Harris Rosen is once again assisting his favorite project: Tangelo Elementary School in Orlando. Most recently, Rosen enlisted employees from Best Buy to help paint, clean, landscape and provide computer support for the school, which is in a poor neighborhood not far from the city's tourist and convention areas.
A group of Best Buy employees, including CEO Brad Anderson, pitched in to scruce up the school while the company's executives were in town for its annual meeting.
Thanks to Rosen, the Tangelo community receives a variety of educational assistance, including free childcare for pre-school kids and full college scholarships for high school graduates in the neighborhood. In the past 13 years, more than 250 graduates received the scholarships, while high school dropout rates have fallen from 25 percent to six percent last year.
