WESTIN ADDS RENEWAL CONCEPT
Thanks to help from Martha Stewart's Apprentice wannabes, The Westin New York at Times Square has what it calls a new lifestyle product, the Renewal Suite. On a recent edition of Stewart's Apprentice show on NBC-TV, her job candidates helped Westin designers create a new brand positioning that revolves around personal renewal.
The 1,200-square-foot suite combines elements such chromotherapy, digital art, a spa bath, tranquil water, light and music. The hotel prices the suite at $2,000 per night, and Westin plans to adopt elements of the suite in other properties in its system.
Guests walk into the suite into what the designers call a “decompression chamber”: a floor-to-ceiling water feature backed by soothing music and Westin's new signature white tea scent diffused into the environment.
Other features of the guest unit include a wall sculpture with nearly 100 votive candles; a gym with the brand's WestinWORKOUT in-room equipment; a luxury bath with infinity whirlpool tub, flat-screen TV, steam shower with wall-mounted body sprays, cashmere slippers, robe, bath crystals and salts, extra towels; and an array of in-room technology and entertainment systems.
One element of the suite that Westin plans to roll out throughout the chain is a reimaging of the mini-bar. The newly named Purification Station offers a variety of products to help guests relieve the stress of travel, as well as a new line of healthy snacks that include organic wine, beer and cookies.
In addition to a number of stress-busting oils, sprays, towelettes, eye drops and throat lozenges, guests will be able to purchase an Oxia Personal Oxygen dispenser that contains six gallons of pressurized oxygen.
In a bit of a throwback, Westin is also restoring the mint on the pillow tradition, but with a twist. The new mints are actually Moondrops Homeopathic Sleep Therapy Lozenges designed to remedy the main causes of sleeplessness. Also, a relaxation oil patch is placed on top of a customized memory foam Heavenly Bed bolster pillow.
