Air Tragedy Again Strikes Atlantic City Casino Industry
While the details of the two incidents weren't identical, a fatal plane last week in Minnesota brought back bad memories of a similar tragedy 18 years ago. Last week, a small chartered jet crash-landed in a Minnesota cornfield, killing eight people, including several members of a development team working on the Revel Hotel & Casino project in Atlantic City, NJ.
In 1989, a helicopter crash in central New Jersey took the lives of three executives in developer Donald Trump's casino-hotel operation. That crash came six months before the opening of Trumps' Taj Mahal Casino and Resort in Atlantic City. Among those killed was Mark Etess, CEO of the property.
When it opens in 2010, the Revel will have 2,000 rooms, a
168,000-square-foot casino, plus retail, dining and other entertainment.
