Fontainebleau Reopening Delayed Five Weeks
The $1-billion rebirth of Miami Beach’s iconic Fontainebleau resort has been delayed. According to press reports, the 1,540-room property will be reopen on Oct. 18, five weeks later than originally planned. Management blames construction delays for the costly glitch.
The oceanfront resort has been closed since early 2006. The redo includes the addition of two new towers (in addition to the refurbishment of two existing buildings), plus the development of 11 restaurants and lounges and a 40,000-square-foot spa.
While Oct. 18 is the planned soft opening, the hotel will host a grand opening on Nov. 14 that will coincide with the filming of a Victoria Secret TV special.
