Lodging Industry Mixed on Election Result
The lodging industry has mixed feelings on the recent presidential election, according to an exclusive survey conducted by Lodging Hospitality and Penton Media.
Forty percent of LH subscribers who responded to the survey said they were not pleased with the result of the presidential election, while 35 percent were very pleased and 19 percent somewhat pleased. The other six percent had no opinion or didn’t respond to the question. Only five percent of respondents were very surprised at President-elect Barack Obama’s victory; 74 percent said they weren't surprised at all.
Sixty percent of LH respondents expect the election result to be beneficial for the country, while 36 percent disagree. On the other hand, 37 percent said the Obama victory would not be beneficial for their business, while 15 percent said it would be very beneficial. Sixteen percent said it would be somewhat beneficial and 24 percent were neutral.
The issue most concerning to LH subscribers was the stability of the nation’s financial institutions (4.3 average rating on a five-point scale of importance), followed closely by these issues: availability of credit, national security, energy costs and the ability to provide affordable healthcare to employees.
Forty-two percent of respondents said their party affiliation was Republican vs. 30 percent Democratic.
The investigation was conducted exclusively for Penton's National Real Estate Investor, Lodging Hospitality, Retail Traffic and Registered Rep magazines. The methodology, data collection and analysis were done by Penton Research. The survey was conducted from Nov. 5 through Nov. 7.
