Travel Philanthropy a Focus for Preferred Hotels
Preferred Hotels Group wants guests to feel good about choosing a place to stay. They figure a little travel philanthropy will help. And so, select member properties are donating $1 to $3 per room night to Global Angels or Born Free for guests who choose one of three travel promotions.
Those who book City Kids or Family Fun packages raise money for Global Angels, a foundation championing the causes of children, young people and impoverished communities around the world. The Pets Welcome package generates a donation to Born Free Foundation, a wildlife charity working to protect threatened wild species and stop wild animal suffering worldwide.

Both packages include breakfast, spending credits and more.
“The global impact and multiplier effect of numerous small donations from guest stays can help the wellbeing of global children and wildlife for years to come,” says Lindsey Ueberroth, president, Preferred Hotel Group.
Quite simply, the program’s goal is to drive hotel traffic and do something great for the global and local communities, says Maureen Raynaud, the executive director of The Good Night Foundation. “It helps a lot from a public relations standpoint. Hotels need local business during the week; it’s great for the locals to know what a hotel is doing within the community.”
The cleverly named Good Night Foundation is a non-profit that supports organizations focused on health, education, environment and poverty relief with funding provided by nightly guest donations at participating hotels. It processes and distributes donations collected by Preferred and other hotels.
Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago in Chicago, for example, booked 215 room nights with the programs just this summer. "We designed our Kids in the City package to help guests of all ages enjoy their visit to Chicago, while simultaneously supporting those in need, and we are pleased to say it is one of our best-selling packages," says Robert Prohaska, director of sales and marketing.
Properties within the Preferred Hotels & Resorts and Preferred Boutique brands make a $3 donation; Summit Hotels & Resorts properties donate $2; Sterling Hotels donate $1. The San Francisco-based Good Night Foundation invites other lodging properties to choose their charities and participate.
