LH Design Awards: Omni Dallas Hotel
The Team: Matthews Southwest & the City of Dallas (developers & ownership), BOKA Powell (architect of record), 5G Studio (design architect), waldrop+nichols studio (interior architecture and interior design)
The Brief: Create a marketing center that reflects the city of Dallas, while blending together with the classic aesthetic synonymous with Omni.
The Inspiration: The dichotomy of Dallas, with its multi-cultural society, industry and commerce contrasted with its glamour and glitz.
The Finished Product: The $550-million, 1,001-room hotel was one of the biggest hotels projects to open last year and earned LEED Silver status. It features 67 suites, three presidential suites, 110,000 square feet of meeting space, a spa and three restaurants. Second- and third-floor prefunction meeting space connects directly to the Dallas Convention Center. The lobby features dark millwork panels against a polished crème limestone floor, providing a backdrop to the city’s history and culture. The lobby lounge and stairs feature suspended translucent ceiling panels of wire grid adorned with prismatic crystals, combining the industrial and glamorous traits of the city.
The Focal Point: Dallas is on display at every turn, from the lobby to the food & beverage to the guestrooms. The Owners Box Sports Bar, with 72 TVs(!), features giant front page sports sections from the Dallas Morning News glowing beneath a glass floor in the entryway. Guestrooms showcase a style and sophistication seen in area homes and high-rise living, along with artwork commissioned by local artists, which is also on display in public spaces and for sale in the gift shop. The museum style boutique and coffee shop offers products from other Dallas-based companies.
