Hotelchatter.com, one of the more witty of the websites dispensing opinions about the lodging field, has discovered the ultimate “geek hotel.”

Hotelchatter kudos go to the Tribeca Grand in Manhattan, where, hotelchatter says, the geek quotient runs spectacularly high.

“What does it take to be a Geeky Hotel?” Hotelchatter asks. “Way more than just free Wi-Fi, that's for sure.” (Editor's note: chains, are you listening?) “Being geek is a cultural endeavour, so after searching every henhouse, outhouse, and boathouse around the world, we have put together our list of the world's top geek hotels. From artificial intelligence, to high-end gadgetry, to geek service, and geek movie worship, the hotels on this list have a certain je ne sais quoi de geek.”

What gives the Tribeca Grand its geek “je ne sais quoi” comes out most clearly in its iStudio (note the Gen X geek enjoying it above), which is “stuffed to the hilt” with Apple computers, iPods, even video editing software and cameras. Ask for a room number ending in 05 or 06, hotelchatter says, because those rooms feature the Apple Macintosh G5, one of Apple's most stylish computers.

Other key geek hotels hotelchatter cites are the Hotel@MIT in Cambridge, MA (where a PC and a Mac bracket the lobby) and Woodlyn Park, New Zealand, where you can pretend you're a Hobbit.
