NxTV, a video-on-demand and digital entertainment provider, has begun installing high-definition (HD) set-top boxes in the hotels it services. The first such installation is in the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

These set-top boxes feature sophisticated output and encryption, delivering HD content securely to HD displays. Further security measures can be implemented. In addition, the box features a hardware video decoder that supports various MPEG formats, along with an interface compatible with most commercial hospitality HDTVs. NxTV has content agreements with major Hollywood studios such as MGM, Paramount and DreamWorks, and with independents like Lionsgate and HDNet/Magnolia Pictures.

Over the next few years, NxTV plans to provide high-definition services to all of its customers to keep pace with the rollout of HD displays throughout the hospitality industry.
