Working Without a Wire
The wireless revolution is transforming the services hotels provide their guests. Some of the following may take some time before they become commonplace, but hotels will adopt them to enhance the guestroom experience.
- Guestroom Access and Inventory
When guests install a hotel-specific application on their smartphone, reservations can be stored and accessed at any time. Guests could receive room numbers by text during check-in and enter their rooms via fingerprint, keypad, or cell phone.
- Concierge and Room Service
Mobile technology lets users independently book sightseeing and local activities from a smartphone or laptop. The same hotel-based application lets guests view menus, order roomservice and charge items to their rooms via mobile devices.
- In-Room Entertainment
Services like High Fidelity audio streaming let guests wirelessly connect Bluetooth-enabled MP3 devices to the television and stream music through surround-sound speakers. And Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), which integrates TV wireless devices and computers, could be used in the guestroom.
- Staying Connected
Distributed Antenna Solutions (DAS) enhance cellular and WLAN coverage throughout the property. Video and audio applications for guests' cell phones can help guests stay in touch with family. A strong wireless network fulfills the in-room needs of business and leisure guests, using smartphones or laptops. By integrating hotel-branded mobile applications, RFID, multimedia and other technologies, hotels can meet guests' needs before they arise.
