Picking up a gauntlet the Mohegan Tribe tossed down several years ago, MGM Resorts International formally announced Thursday that it has signed a deal to buy 150 remote acres in this tiny, rural town, where it plans to build a "world class resort" that would be accessible only by a proposed ramp from Interstate 90, the Massachusetts Turnpike. Las Vegas-based MGM, one of the world's biggest gaming concerns, will compete for the same western Massachusetts casino license the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority has been preparing to pursue.
