How Dream to Make FL `Vegas of the East' Failed
On February 3, a long-fought proposal to bring high-end resort casinos to Florida died without even getting a vote in a House subcommittee. Bill sponsor Rep. Erik Fresen, R-Miami, knew he didn’t have the votes and simply asked the committee to postpone the vote, effectively killing the bill.
The proposal to bring three destination resort casinos was unveiled last fall, but immediately faced a faced a high-stakes lobbying effort opposing it that snowballed with time. Click here for the full story.
