Ga. Court Sides With Atlanta in Hotel Tax Debate
The online travel companies that book hotel rooms in Atlanta should rework their complicated pricing formula to pay the city more in occupancy taxes, but they don't have to repay millions of dollars in back taxes, the Georgia Supreme Court said Monday in a unanimous opinion. The ruling could settle a long-running legal battle that stemmed from a 2006 lawsuit the city filed against 17 online companies, including Hotels.com, Expedia and Orbitz, that targeted the pricing scheme used by the popular travel sites.
