Genting Hype is Hurting Florida Casino Bill
Just a few months ago, Genting Malaysia was hailed as a model for all the good casino gambling could bring to South Florida. It promised a $3-billion resort on the shores of Miami's Biscayne Bay -- with 5,200 hotel rooms, a high-end casino, 50 restaurants and thousands of jobs. And Vegas-based casino operators Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts welcomed the company as an ally they hoped would persuade the Legislature to legalize "destination casinos" in Florida.
