Des Moines residents last week got their most in-depth look yet at a $32.3 million downtown hotel project that has kicked up no shortage of debate. Residents, city officials and developers are trying to come to terms on a plan that will reshape nearly one square block of prime riverfront property near Second Avenue and Water Street. The project is proposed in a predominantly residential area, and nearby residents have been among the hardest to convince that redevelopment plans mesh with the neighborhood.
